Featuring George T. Morgan's Patriotic Liberty Design
Both faces of this coin were designed by George T. Morgan. Obverse: Liberty features in left-side profile on the obverse. On her head are a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, a Phrygian cap, and a crown of cotton and wheat. Thirteen stars join "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1887" in encircling her effigy along the rim.
Reverse: On the reverse, an open wreath partially encircles a heraldic eagle, which holds arrows and an olive branch. Just above the bird's head is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." All of this is encircled by two rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR."
