Striking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

Obverse: George T. Morgan designed both the obverse and the reverse. His obverse design shows Liberty in left-side profile wearing a Phrygian cap, a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, and a crown made from cotton, a Southern crop, and wheat, a Northern one. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the date, "1886" are inscribed along the rim. They are connected by thirteen stars.

Reverse: An open wreath partially encircles an eagle on the reverse. The bird spreads its wings while holding arrows and an olive branch. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between the bird's wings, while the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.
