Why add the 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS63 to your collection?
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) examined this 1885 Morgan Silver Dollar and awarded it the solid Mint State 63 (MS63) grade. This highly collected and popular series was issued from 1878 until 1904 and then returned one last time in 1921 before the issuance of the Peace Dollar. The series was struck on 90% pure silver planchets with .7734 oz. of bullion each. The issue on offer here was struck at the Philadelphia branch of the U.S. Mint. The mintage was 17,787,000 coins.
Classic George Morgan Silver Dollar
The obverse image used is the left-facing portrait of the Goddess Liberty modeled by teacher Anna Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher. She is shown wearing a small crown engraved with the word "Liberty." The reverse depicts the legislatively mandated American Eagle. The bald eagle appears beneath the motto "In God We Trust" and surrounded by a laurel wreath. This was George Morgan's first assignment for the U.S. Mint.
Solidly Collectible MS63
MS63 coins have excellent mint luster. Examples in the grade may have several small contact marks with some scattered, heavy marks. Hairlines, small scuffs or other minute distractions may be present in the design devices or in the fields.
