Why Buy This MS64 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar?

The Morgan silver dollar is one of the most well-known classic U.S. coins. Many see them as a symbol of the Wild West era and there is no shortage of history surrounding them. The Morgan dollar shown here was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1885. This coin had a moderate mintage of 9,185,000 pieces. However, the original mintage figures for classic coins are just a reference.

Iconic Liberty and Bald Eagle Designs from Morgan

Liberty can be seen at the center of the design on the obverse. She has finely detailed hair and is wearing a small cap. Below Liberty, there are 13 stars and the date. This is a George T. Morgan design.

The bald eagle design on the reverse was created by Morgan as well, that's how these coins came to be known as Morgan dollars. The face value and mintmark are near the bottom of the design. The central portion shows a bald eagle with its wings high in the air.
