Why purchase this 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar?The Morgan Dollar was introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1878, a direct result of the passage of the Bland-Allison Act, which required the Mint to produce vast amounts of dollar denomination coinage from silver obtained from western mines. Designed by George T. Morgan, imagery of the coin depicts an eagle and a symbol of liberty, as mandated by the Coinage Act of 1792 signed into law by President George Washington. This 1885 Morgan Dollar was struck from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint, its final mintage declared by the Mint to be 9,185,000. Magnificent Morgan Dollar ImageryAn elegantly styled rendition of Lady Liberty adorns the obverse, wearing a Phrygian cap, a crown inscribed "LIBERTY" and a garland of leaves and flowers, surrounded by thirteen stars, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1885." A heraldic eagle is illustrated on the reverse, grasping an olive branch and arrows, with a wreath and the Mint mark "O" below. Additionally inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."
