Why Choose This MS65 Toned 1885-O Morgan Dollar from the Great Montana Collection?

Many collectors today see the Morgan silver dollar as a symbol of the Wild West era. These coins were first struck in 1878 and annual production continued through 1904. The New Orleans Mint struck the coin shown here in 1885. There were 9,185,000 of these minted. However, the specimen offered here has qualities not found in many others like it. Not only is this a toned coin, but it was also a part of the Great Montana Collection. This coin hoard was found in 1998 and thousands of classic U.S. coins were recovered from it.

Detailed Liberty Obverse and Iconic Bald Eagle Reverse

These coins get their name from the creator of their designs, George T. Morgan. The obverse shows Morgan's Liberty design and the date.

The reverse shows a bald eagle partially surrounded by a wreath. Its wings are held high while it grasps a bundle of arrows and an olive branch with its talons. The "O" mintmark is below the wreath.

MS65 Toned

When this Morgan dollar was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, it received the grade of Mint State 65. This coin is in gem uncirculated condition and has attractive toning.
