Why purchase this 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar from the Great Montana Collection
The Great Montana Collection is one of the great finds over the past two decades. Amassed by George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana, the collection consisted of over 17,000 coins. This 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar was among them. The coin was struck from .7734 troy oz of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint, which is represented by an "O" mint mark on the reverse.
Historic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
This coin gets its name from George T. Morgan, the man who designed it. On the obverse is Liberty, whom Morgan modeled off of Anna Willess Williams. The design marked a departure from the tradition of using Greek-style Liberty figures in favor of American-style ones. On her head are a Phrygian cap, a ribbon, and a crown of cotton and wheat.
An eagle is at the center of the reverse. It clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Under it is a laurel wreath, while above its head is an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
Uncirculated MS64 Toned
This coin was certified Mint State 64 by the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). MS64 means that a coin has an average or above strike but also has several obvious marks or hairlines along with other minuscule imperfections.
