Why Buy This MS64* 1885-O Great Montana Collection Rainbow Toned Morgan Silver Dollar?
The Morgan silver dollar was first struck by the U.S. Mint in 1878. Annual minting continued through 1904 and then these coins were struck again later for a single year in 1921. The Morgan silver dollar offered here was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1885. It had a moderate mintage, but two qualities really set this specimen apart from others like it. The first is quite obvious, this coin displays rainbow toning which is very desirable. The second is that this is a hoard coin, it was once a part of the Great Montana Collection. The coin shown here is the exact coin you will receive.
Patriotic Works of Art on Obverse and Reverse
George T. Morgan is the artist behind the designs on the obverse and reverse. His depiction of Liberty is on the obverse.
The mintmark and face value are on the reverse. This side displays a bald eagle with its wings high and the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscribed between the tips.
When this specimen was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, it was given the grade of Mint State 64*. This grade is for coins in uncirculated condition, the * means that the NGC experts believe this specimen has exceptional eye appeal.
