Why buy this 1885-O Great Montana Collection Morgan Silver Dollar?
This Silver 1885-O Morgan Dollar comes to us from one of the biggest private hoards in American history. It was among the 17,000+ pieces that George Bouvier amassed over the course of his life. Just before he died, Bouvier shared his secret, and his family recovered the coins in 1998. When you order, you will receive the exact coin shown here. Struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver, it bears the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint.
Patriotic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Designer George T. Morgan lends his name to this historic coin. In a break from tradition, he chose Anna Willess Williams, an American-style model, for Liberty. She dons a Phrygian cap, a symbol of her freedom, that covers much of her curly hair. Also on her head is a crown of cotton and wheat.
The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above an eagle's head on the reverse. In its talons, the eagle clutches arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. A laurel wreath arches under the bird just inside the rim.
Well Preserved MS63 Toned
This coin has some toning, which appeals to large numbers of collectors. It lacks any signs of wear and earned a Mint State 63 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
