Why choose this Morgan 1885-O Silver Dollar From the Great Montana Collection?
Own a piece of history with this 1885-O Morgan Dollar. The coin was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint and bears an "O" mint mark. It was part of the collection amassed by George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana. Bouvier kept the hoard a secret until just before he died. His family then recouped the collection from the walls of his home and under the floors of his store. All told, the collection had over 17,000 pieces and remains among the largest private hoards in American history. Place your order now to receive the exact coin depicted on this page.
Historic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
George T. Morgan's Liberty design, which is on the obverse, broke new ground in American numismatics thanks to his choice of an American-style model rather than a Greek-style one. Much of the woman's hair is covered by a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom. She also wears a crown of cotton and wheat. An eagle holds arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, on the reverse.
MS63 Choice Uncirculated Toned
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in Choice Uncirculated condition by grading it Mint State 63. Furthermore, it definitely has some toning, which is a highly attractive quality that many collectors seek out.
