Why purchase this 1885-O Great Montana Collection Morgan Silver Dollar
The Great Montana Collection was assembled by Deer Creek, Montana resident George Bouvier. It consisted of over 17,000 coins and was kept a secret until Bouvier told a family friend about it just before he died. When the friend passed on the message, Bouvier's relatives uncovered one of the largest private hoards in American history. The exact piece displayed on this page was part of the hoard, and now it presents you with an opportunity to own a piece of history. The coin has the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint, where it was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
Classic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
On the obverse is George T. Morgan's historic Liberty design, which broke with tradition thanks to Morgan's choice of an American-style model for Liberty. The allegorical figure wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of freedom, as well as a ribbon and a crown. The crown is made from two staple American crops, cotton and wheat. An eagle is in the middle of a laurel wreath on the reverse.
Choice Uncirculated MS63 Toned
According to the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), this coin is in Mint State 63 condition. Coins in that condition are characterized as "choice uncirculated." The coin is also "toned," which makes it more appealing to many collectors.
