Why add this Silver 1885-O Morgan Dollar From the Great Montana Collection to your collection?
One of the biggest private collections in American history was assembled by George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana. He kept that collection a secret, only disclosing it to a family friend on his deathbed. The friend disclosed the secret to Bouvier's family, and they uncovered over 17,000 coins, of which this piece is one. This coin, which was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver and bears the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint, gives you a chance to share in the discovery. This order ships the precise piece pictured here.
Groundbreaking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The obverse design by George T. Morgan broke with long standing tradition because it shows Liberty as an American-style rather than a Greek-style figure. Liberty dons a Phrygian cap, a symbol of her freedom, as well as a crown of cotton and wheat and a ribbon on which there is an inscription of her name.
On the reverse, which was also designed by Morgan, an eagle holds arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. A laurel wreath extends under it.
Well Preserved MS63 Toned
Experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in Mint State 63 condition, which means that it is choice uncirculated. It is also toned, which adds an element of uniqueness to it.
