Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) experts graded this Toned 1885-O Morgan Silver Dollar at the desirable Mint State 63 (MS63) grade. It features the desirable Great Montana Collection pedigree. It was struck at the famed New Orleans Branch of the U.S. Mint. The series was struck on a 90% pure silver planchet that contains .7734 oz. of bullion.
The Most Recognizable U.S. Silver Dollar Design
The obverse features a crowned portrait of Liberty with agricultural materials woven into her hair. The reverse features a Heraldic Eagle "displayed" encircled by a laurel wreath. George T. Morgan, English immigrant and later Seventh Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint designed this popular series.
MS63 with Toning
Coins in the MS63 grade are attractive and sought after. A few small distractions, or contact marks are apparent in this grade. The coins are lustrous, well struck examples with nice eye appeal. Toning is the natural patina that results from the interaction of the air, the silver and copper in the coin and other incidental environmental chemicals like those from canvas bank storage bags or paper cardboard older coin albums. Toned coins are hotly pursued by collectors who see the natural beauty of the toning as an enhancement to eye appeal.
