Why order this 1885-O Great Montana Collection Silver Morgan Dollar?
Sometimes the history of specific coins, as opposed to their mintages, makes them especially important. Such is the case with this 1885-O Morgan Dollar. Struck from .7734 troy oz. at the New Orleans Mint, this coin was part of the 17,000+ piece collection of George Bouvier. Bouvier quietly amassed the collection, which he only disclosed on his deathbed. Uncovered in 1998, it was among the largest private collections in American history. Historic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The designs on both faces of this piece were the creation of George T. Morgan. His obverse broke new ground in American numismatics thanks to his choice of an American-style model for Liberty. The allegorical figure wears a Phrygian cap and a crown of cotton and wheat.
An eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. A laurel wreath extends under it, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between its wings.
Choice Uncirculated MS63 Toned
This coin lacks any signs of wear and earned a Mint State 63 grade from the team at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Additionally, there is some toning present, a feature that makes a coin unique and is visually appealing for many collectors.
