Why purchase this 1885-O Great Montana Collection Morgan Silver Dollar for your collection?
George Bouvier of Deer Lodge, Montana amassed a collection of more than 17,000 coins throughout his life. He kept the hoard a secret until he was close to death, when he disclosed it to a friend of his family. That friend made his family aware of it, and they proceeded to find it in the walls of his house and under the floor in his store. Now, you have the chance to own a coin from his hoard, one of the largest private ones in U.S. history. You will receive the exact coin depicted on this page. It was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint, which is represented by an "O" mint mark at the base of the reverse design.
Pioneering Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The obverse features George T. Morgan's Liberty design. She wears a crown of cotton and wheat as well as a Phrygian cap, which is a traditional symbol of freedom. The design was significant because it marked a change from the tradition of depicting Liberty as a Greek-style figure rather than an American-style one. Morgan's reverse consists of an eagle within a laurel wreath.
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified this coin as Choice Uncirculated by grading it Mint State 63. Additionally, the coin definitely has some attractive toning.
