Why order this 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar from the Great Montana Collection?
Deer Lodge, Montana resident George Bouvier secretly amassed one of the biggest private hoards in American history. All told, he owned over 17,000 coins, which he hid in the walls of his home and under the floors of his shop. Shortly before his death, Bouvier told a friend about it, and that friend informed his family, who proceeded to uncover the collection. With this 1885-O Morgan, you can own a piece of the historic collection. The coin, which is the exact one depicted here, was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the New Orleans Mint. It has an "O" mint mark on the reverse.
Patriotic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The Morgan Silver Dollar, which is named for designer George T. Morgan, is beloved in part due to Morgan's decision to model Liberty after an American-style figure rather than a Greek one. On her head, she wears a ribbon on which there is an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY," a crown of two staple American crops, cotton and wheat, and a Phrygian cap. An eagle and a laurel wreath are on the reverse.
Exquisite MS63 Toned
This coin earned the Choice Uncirculated grade of Mint State 63 from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), which means that it shows no signs of wear. It has toned, which is an attractive characteristic for many collectors.
