Why order this Silver 1885-O Great Montana Collection Morgan Dollar?
For collectors looking to own a piece of one of the great hoards in American history, this 1885-O Silver Morgan Dollar is a great choice. The coin was one of 17,000 that George Bouvier, a resident of Deer Lodge, Montana, quietly amassed over the course of his lifetime. Bouvier only revealed his secret on his deathbed, and his family then recovered the coins from the walls of his home and under the floor of his shop. Part of a mintage of nearly 9.2 million pieces, this coin bears the New Orleans Mint's "O" mint mark. There, it was struck from .7734 oz. of .900 fine silver.
Classic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Liberty is depicted as an American-style figure on George T. Morgan's obverse. That was a noteworthy departure from the tradition of showing her as a Greek-style figure. On her head, she wears a Phrygian cap, which symbolizes freedom, and a crown made from two important American crops, cotton and wheat.
An eagle holds arrows, symbols of military readiness, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, on the reverse. A laurel wreath arches under the bird.
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in Choice Uncirculated condition, giving it a grade of Mint State 63. There is also some toning, which large numbers of collectors love.
