The profile of the allegorical Goddess Liberty, the American Ideal, is shown on the obverse of the coin. She wears a Freedom Cap and an inscribed crown. On the reverse of the coin, the symbol of American might and strength is shown: the Bald Eagle. He is depicted in an aggressive stance, appearing to make himself appear larger with his wings spread. The coin was designed by U.S. Mint Engraver George T. Morgan.
