The Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced in 1878 and struck for a total of twenty-eight years in five different U.S. Mint facilities. The Carson City Mint in Nevada produced the coin for only thirteen years, with the lowest mintage of just 228,000 coins issued in 1885. This Mint State Morgan Dollar, measuring 38.1 mm in diameter, was struck from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver in 1885.

Featured on the obverse is a profile image of Lady Liberty facing left, wearing Phrygian cap and a hair band inscribed "LIBERTY," her hair adorned with wheat stalks, cotton blossoms and oak leaves. The portrait is encircled by "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1885" and thirteen stars.
A laurel wreath curves beneath an eagle grasping an olive branch and arrows on the reverse, with the Carson City Mint mark "CC" below, "IN GOD WE TRUST" above. Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR."
