1885 Carson City Morgan Dollar
Even when the Carson City branch of the United States Mint was in operation in the late 1800s, Morgan dollars with the famous "CC" mintmark were scarce. This happened for a variety of reasons, the most significant were low mintage figures and storage for later use by the government. Today, Carson City Morgans are some of the most sought after coins of the collector market. The initial mintage of this coin was a mere 228,000. Most issues of the Morgan dollar had mintage figures of several million pieces. A variety of mint state examples have been graded and are known of, but this coin can be difficult to find on the market in general.
NGC MS63 1885 Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar
This 1885-CC Morgan has been graded by NGC. This Morgan Dollar received a grade of MS63. This is a very respectable Mint state grade. Carson City Morgan dollars were known for their strong crisp strikes and excellent finishes. These are some of the things that have drawn so many collectors to them. While all grades of this coin are rare, this MS63 is valuable but not such a high grade as to be unaffordable.
1885-CC Morgan Dollar Design
This coin takes its name from the man who designed it, George T. Morgan. When this coin was created it was common for artists to design both sides of a coin as opposed to a different artist creating each side today. The reverse of this silver dollar shows a bald eagle holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. There is a wreath that partially surround the eagle and below this wreath is the "CC" mintmark.
The front of the coin depicts Liberty with long curly hair and a soft decorated cap. The cap shows the word "LIBERTY." The border of the design is made of 13 stars and the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1885."
This NGC MS63 1885-CC Morgan dollar is a great opportunity to add a beautiful piece of American history to your collection.
