Why purchase this Morgan 1884-O Silver Dollar?
Start or grow your collection of Morgan Silver Dollars with this piece from 1884. Morgans are highly collectible. In many cases, they are the only coins that people collect. This piece was struck at the New Orleans Mint, as evidenced by its "O" mint mark. That is especially powerful given that the series began in the decade after the Civil War, and the New Orleans Mint was in the Confederacy. This coin is especially desirable since uncirculated pieces from this mintage are not easy to come by.
Poignant Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: George T. Morgan's obverse design depicts Liberty in left-side profile wearing a crown, a Phrygian cap, and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name. Morgan depicted Liberty as an American-style figure and in doing so broke with the long tradition of depicting her as a Greek-style figure. Inscriptions along the rim include one of two statutory mottoes, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the date, "1884."
Reverse: On the reverse, which was also designed by Morgan, an eagle holds arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath. Between the birds wings is an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Encircling the bird and the wreath are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
Uncirculated MS65 with Green Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this coin an uncirculated grade of Mint State 65. The grade indicates that the coin was well struck and lacks any traces of wear. This information is provided on a green label, which is only awarded to coins that in addition to undergoing NGC's exacting certification and encapsulation process, were first identified by experts at Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA) for having attributes such as stunning eye-appeal, booming luster, solid strike, or attractive toning.
