Why add the 1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar NGC MS63 to your collection?
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this 1884-O Morgan Silver Dollar at the solidly respectable Mint State 63 (MS63) level. It has a lower mintage of 9,730,000 coins and was struck on a .900 fine silver planchet containing .7734 oz. of silver bullion. The iconic New Orleans branch of the U.S. Mint is responsible for minting some of the most sought-after coins in the series. More broadly, coins struck there are avidly collected by specialists. Many coins from this issue were circulated, still many others were melted.
Classic Morgan Silver Dollar Design
The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Anna Willess Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher who modeled as Liberty. She is depicted facing left with a coronet inscribed "Liberty" with agricultural materials incorporated into her curly hair. The reverse features the image of an eagle surrounded by a laurel wreath. Over the eagle's head appears the motto "In God We Trust" in Gothic lettering. This was engraver George T. Morgan's first design for the United States Mint.
MS63 with exciting Pedigree
The Great Montana Collection was put together by Morgan Dollar Enthusiast and sound money proponent George Bouvier. MS63 coins will have a good strike, average mint luster and attractive eye appeal. Contact or "bag" marks are common in the grade. The grade is well-regarded and experiences steady collector interest.
