1884-CC Morgan Dollar

Carson City Morgan dollars have always had their own following of collectors. Some people collect them because the Carson City Mint no longer exists. Some collect them for their low mintages and high values, and others even have different reasons. Regardless of why you are interested in Carson City Morgans, the 1884 is a great place to get started.

It is generally well-known that many issues of the Morgan dollar have been depleted over time. When the price of silver rises these coins have a habit of being melted by the thousands. However, many 1884 Carson City Morgan dollars never made it into circulation. The majority of them were actually stored by the government until the mid-1900s. Since this issue happened to be preserved for so long and in such a great quantity, today many mint state examples can be found on the market. Although mint state examples of this coin aren't hard to come by, they can still have significant value depending on the exact grade.

This 1884-CC Morgan has been graded by PCGS and received the grade of MS65. This grade is very high and MS65 is an important grade for this series of coins. At this grade and higher is where the values really jump.

1884 CC Morgan Design

The front of the Morgan dollar shows a depiction of Liberty as if she is standing perpendicular to you. Also seen on the obverse are inscriptions such as “Liberty” and “1884.”

A "CC" Mint mark can be found on the reverse along with an image of a bald eagle and various other inscriptions.

Even if you've been collecting Carson City Morgans for years, this PCGS MS65 1884-CC Morgan dollar is a fantastic coin and would make a great addition to your collection.
