Why should you add this 1884 Morgan Silver Dollar to your collection?
Struck in 1884, the Morgan Silver Dollar stands as an iconic piece of coinage in American history. It was actually one of the first coins to feature lLdy Liberty in an American style, instead of the traditional Greek and Roman style most coins of the times followed. This Morgan Silver Dollar was struck in the Carson City Mint in Nevada, using 26.73g of .900 pure silver. While not officially a "key date," a low mintage of only 1,136,000, with only a portion of that mintage remaining, affirms this as a very desirable issue.
Featuring the iconic work of George T. Morgan!
The obverse depicts the left-facing portrait of lady Liberty. This portrait was unique for the times as it features Liberty in an American style, modeled after teacher and philosophical writer Anna Williams.
The reverse features a large bald eagle clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," and the American motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are the inscriptions on the reverse.
