The coin gets its name from the man who designed both faces of it, George T. Morgan. Liberty, who was modeled off of Anna Willess Williams, faces to the left. She wears a crown of cotton and wheat, staple American crops, and a ribbon with an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY." Encircling her image are the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM," thirteen stars, and the date, "1884."
On the reverse, an eagle has its breast toward the holder and its wings spread upward. Its head is turned to the left, and in its talons are symbols of readiness for war, arrows, and peace, an olive branch. A laurel wreath, a which symbolizes honors bestowed upon civilians, arches under the image.
