Why order this Silver 1884-CC Morgan Dollar?
The Morgan Silver Dollar is an iconic American coin in part due to the fact that its designer, George T. Morgan, selected an American model for Liberty. This was significant because the tradition to that point dictated that a Greek-style mode would be chosen. This coin has particular appeal because it bears the "CC" mint mark of the Carson City Mint, which many collectors associate with the Wild Wild West. Like other Morgans, it was struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
Iconic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Both faces of this coin were designed by George T. Morgan, whose name is forever linked to it. On the obverse is his American-style Liberty. He chose Anna Willess Williams as his model. Morgan depicts the figure in left-side profile wearing a Phrygian cap, which symbolizes freedom, and a crown made from two staple American crops, cotton and wheat. The effigy is encircled by the rim inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) and "1884," which are connected by stars.
An eagle spreads its wings upward on the reverse. The wings extend almost to the edge, breaking up one of the two rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." The eagle clutches arrows, symbols of America's willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace. It is largely encircled by a wreath, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head. A second rim inscription provides the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
Uncirculated MS64
This coin received an uncirculated grade of Mint State 64 from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade indicates that it has an excellent strike and pleasing full mint luster.
