Why add this Silver 1884-CC Morgan Dollar to your collection?
The 1884-CC Morgan Silver Dollar has a fascinating history. Until the 1970's and 1980's, the coin was somewhat difficult to find. Then, with the release of the General Services Administration (GSA) hoard, the coin became quite common. This piece, which was part of that hoard, makes for a stunning display piece and an interesting part of America's monetary history.
Famous Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: Liberty wears a Phrygian cap and a crown made of one Southern crop, cotton, and one Northern one, wheat, on the obverse. The design, like the one on the reverse, was created by George T. Morgan. It is encircled by two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1884," and thirteen stars.
Reverse: An open wreath partially encircles an eagle on the reverse. The eagle holds arrows, symbols of America's readiness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
Uncirculated MS61 GSA Holder
The experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in Mint State 61 condition. That means that it has a weak to average strike and lacks any traces of wear. The coin comes set in a holder that identifies it as part of the General Services Administration (GSA) Hoard.
