Regular production of the Morgan dollar began in 1878 and ran through 1904. They were also struck in 1921 alongside the Peace dollar. The coin offered here was part of the GSA hoard. The GSA hoard Morgan dollars were forgotten in storage for many years. When they were found, they were sold to collectors through the mail by the government. This GSA Morgan dollar was struck at the Carson City Mint in 1884.
Historic Liberty and Bald Eagle DesignsObverse: The date can be found on this side of the coin near the lower edge. The central portion shows a detailed portrait of Liberty. She is pictured wearing a small cap in this design. The name Morgan dollar comes from who created the designs, George T. Morgan. Reverse: This side shows Morgan's depiction of a bald eagle. It is partially surrounded by a wreath as it holds its chest and wings high. The "CC" mint mark can be found below the center of the wreath.
