Why order this 1883 Morgan Silver Dollar?
The Morgan Silver Dollar is an iconic series that is beloved by American collectors and non-collectors alike. This 1883 piece comes from the fifth anniversary issue of the series and was struck in the city where America began, Philadelphia.
Featuring the Classic Liberty Design of George T. Morgan
Obverse: A left-side portrait of Liberty graces the obverse. Designed by George T. Morgan, the allegorical figure has a ribbon with an inscription of her name, a Phrygian cap, and a crown of cotton and wheat on her head. Thirteen stars join two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1883," on the rim.
Reverse: An open wreath wraps around an eagle, which clutches arrows and an olive branch in Morgan's reverse design. "IN GOD WE TRUST," America's national motto, is inscribed above the eagle's head. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim.
