The reverse of the coin features a displayed Heraldic Eagle surrounded by a wreath of laurel. In his talons he carries arrows and an olive branch, signifying our desire for Peace but also our willingness to defend ourselves. The motto "In God We Trust" appears over the eagle in Gothic script. George T. Morgan, English immigrant and later Seventh Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint designed this widely collected series. It was his first assignment for the U.S. Mint.
