  • This dollar was struck on a 26.73 gram planchet of .900 fine silver.

Groundbreaking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

Obverse: George T. Morgan's obverse design was historic because he used an American-style model for Liberty rather than following the tradition of using a Greek-style model. Liberty dons a Phrygian cap and a ribbon on which her name is inscribed. Her portrait is encircled by the statutory motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," the date, "1883," and thirteen stars.

Reverse: inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," encircle Morgan's reverse design. That design features an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above the eagle's head. George T. Morgan lends his name to this dollar, which is his most famous work. He was the seventh Chief Engraver of the US Mint.

Very Well Preserved MS66

This coin earned a Mint State 66 grade from the experts at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). That grade means that it was struck very well and has minimal marks or hairlines, none of which are in the focal areas.
