Why Order This GEM BU 1883-O Morgan Dollar from the New York Bank Hoard?
The Morgan silver dollar is among the most widely collected classic U.S. coins. Many see them as a symbol of the Wild West era of United States history. These coins were first struck in 1878, the Morgan dollar shown here was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1883. It had a mintage of 8,725,000 pieces. What makes this coin even more appealing is the fact that it came from the recently discovered New York Bank Hoard.
Morgan's Classic Patriotic Artwork
If you're looking for the date, it can be found on the obverse near the bottom edge of the coin. This side displays George T. Morgan's classic portrait of Liberty.
The eagle design on the reverse is also the work of Morgan. This bald eagle is partially surrounded by a wreath as it holds its wings high in the air. The "O" mintmark is just above the face value.
