Why Order This MS63 Toned 1883-O Morgan Dollar from the Great Montana Collection Today?

The Morgan silver dollar was struck from 1878 through 1904 and then again in 1921. Today, these coins are widely collected and many see them as a symbol of the Wild West era. In 1883, the coin shown here was struck at the New Orleans Mint. There were 8,725,000 of these minted. This figure is moderate compared to the mintage figures of other Morgan dollars. However, the specimen offered to you here is toned and was also taken from a hoard. It came from the Great Montana Collection, which was a 17,000 piece hoard found in 1998.

Morgan's Classic Patriotic Designs

The date is located on the obverse. It can be found as part of the border among 13 stars. The central portion shows a portrait of Liberty with wavy hair and a cap.

The reverse, like the obverse, was designed by George T. Morgan. The design on this side shows a bald eagle partially surrounded by a wreath as it holds its wings high.

MS63 Toned

The experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation assigned this silver dollar the grade of Mint State 63. That means this coin is in uncirculated condition. This specimen's status as a hoard coin has been recognized.
