1883 Carson City Morgan Dollar

Morgan dollars from the Carson City Mint have a special place among collectors. Compared to other Morgan silver dollars, those bearing the Carson City mintmark tend to be harder to find. Also, a number of them never made it into circulation and were preserved in government storage until they were rediscovered and sold to the public.

The front of the Morgan dollar shows a side profile of Liberty. Her hair is very detailed and this is one of the main areas checked for wear during grading. Other than the word "LIBERTY," the other inscriptions form a border around Liberty along with 13 stars. These inscriptions read "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1883."

The reverse of the 1883-CC Morgan shows a bald eagle with its wings stretched out. Below the eagle is a wreath, and below the wreath is the Carson City mintmark. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "ONE DOLLAR" are also found on this side.
