1882 was the fifth year of issue for the U.S. Mint's Morgan Silver Dollar series. The series remained in production until 1904, with a final year of release in 1921. Imagery of the coin was created by the coin's namesake, George T. Morgan, an English immigrant who was hired by the U.S. Mint in 1876. Mr. Morgan went on to become the Mint's seventh Chief Engraver in 1917.

Beautiful Design of the Morgan Silver Dollar
Obverse: An allegorical figure of of Liberty is depicted on the obverse, as a young woman wearing a "LIBERTY" inscribed Phrygian cap, with sprigs of oak leaves, wheat grains and cotton blossoms tucked in the headband. The portrait is framed by thirteen stars, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1882."
Reverse: The reverse features the image of a bald eagle, magnificently posed with outstretched wings, as it clutches an olive branch and a cluster of arrows in its talons. Inscribed "IN GOD WE TRUST," "ONE DOLLAR" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," along with the "S" Mint mark of the San Francisco Mint.
