Why purchase this 1882-S Silver Morgan Dollar?
The Morgan Silver Dollar has a place not only in the hearts of coin collectors but of all Americans. Even to this day, a century after it was last struck, the coin is often passed down as an heirloom from one generation to the next. This piece was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1882 and is perfect as a standalone or as part of a collection of coins in the series.
Featuring the Patriotic Liberty Design of George T. Morgan
Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse was designed by George T. Morgan. Morgan shows Liberty as an American-style figure wearing a Phrygian cap, a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY," and a crown of cotton and wheat. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1882" are inscribed along the rim, combining with thirteen stars to encircle the image.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle spreads its wings on the reverse within an open wreath. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.
