Why add the 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS64 to your collection?

This Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) graded Mint State 64 (MS64) 1882 Morgan Silver Dollar would be great example of type to add to any collection. Through the political influence of the owners of the Comstock Lode Silver Mine the Bland-Allison Act passed. This act required the U.S. Government to purchase vast amounts of silver on a monthly basis which was then struck into silver dollars and some smaller denomination coinage. U.S. Mint Engraver Assistant George Morgan's first assignment for the Mint was the design for this silver dollar.

  • The mintage of this classic issue is 11,100,000.
  • Morgan Silver dollars contain .7734 oz. of actual silver weight.
  • They are struck on 90% fine silver planchets.
  • There are 6,888 examples of MS64 Morgans according to PCGS population records as of 1/13/2021.

Classic Silver Dollar Design

Obverse: The obverse features the portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a small inscribed crown. Curiously, she wears a classic Phrygian cap as well. She has agricultural items woven into her curly locks, symbolizing the 19th Century farm-based American economy.

Reverse: The reverse features a Bald Eagle surrounded by a laurel wreath. The classic motto "In God We Trust" appears on this coin in Gothic lettering. This is the only appearance of that font on American Coinage.

Popular MS64 Issue

Mint State 64 coins are well-struck, fully uncirculated coins. They have bright luster and original surfaces. They are especially desirable in higher, uncirculated grades like this one.
