Why add the 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar From the New York Bank Hoard NGC BU to your collection?
Many collectors have the 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar to thank for their introduction to the most collected series in American Coinage. This example was graded Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and was encapsulated featuring the sought after New York Bank Hoard Label. The San Francisco Mint was well-known for striking high quality Morgan Silver Dollars on standard .7743 oz. .900 fine silver planchets. The New York Bank Hoard of Morgan Dollars was the collection of a Sixties Wall Streeter and was discovered in 2018.
Thank You, Mr. Morgan!
An English immigrant named George T. Morgan was the designer of this Silver Dollar. He later became the 7th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. The model for the depiction of Liberty featured on the obverse was Philadelphia teacher Anna Wills Williams. Morgan's reverse design was an entirely new depiction of an eagle with spread wings. The design is one of the most beautiful and memorable ever struck.
Lustrous, Original BU
The BU grade is characterized by attractive eye appeal and good luster and is a great place for collectors to focus while acquiring truly lovely examples of Morgan Dollars. There is no apparent wear on these lustrous, mint state examples.
