Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed as a young woman on the obverse. She wears a Phrygian cap, which has been a symbol for the pursuit of liberty since the era of the Roman Republic. Sprigs of wheat, oak and cotton adorn her cap, signifying the nation's agricultural achievements. The image is surrounded by thirteen stars, the inscription "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the date "1881," with "LIBERTY" along the cap's headband.

Reverse: The reverse features an eagle with "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscribed between the tips of its outstretched wings.
