Why purchase this impressively graded 1881 Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle coin?

The U.S. Mint issued the Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle coin series for nearly seven decades, beginning in 1939. Imagery of the series, which was adapted for the $10 Eagle and the $2.50 Quarter Eagle gold coin series issued during the same time period, is credited to sculptor Christian Gobrecht, who served as the Mint's third Chief Engraver from 1840 until 1844. The Half Eagle Liberty Head series was retired in 1908 as part of President Theodore Roosevelt's sweeping redesign of the nation's circulating coinage.

  • This 1881 Liberty Head Half Eagle coin is a Philadelphia Mint product.

  • The superbly graded 21.60 mm diameter coin includes the NGC's prestigious Green Label.
