The Morgan Silver Dollar was a product of the U.S. Mint from 1878 until 1921, featuring dramatic patriotic designs created by the Mint's assistant engraver George T. Morgan. This 38.1 mm diameter 1881 Morgan Dollar was struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver. Mintage is reported to be a remarkably low 296,000 coins, the fourth lowest mintage of the entire Morgan Silver Dollar series.

Magnificent Personification of Liberty

Featured on the obverse is a left facing portrait of Lady Liberty, her hair elegantly styled and entwined with sprigs of oak, wheat grains and cotton blossoms beneath a Phrygian cap and a crown bearing the inscription "LIBERTY." The image is surrounded by thirteen stars, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1881."

The reverse depicts an eagle with its wings outstretched grasping an olive branch and arrows, partially encircled below by a wreath of laurel branches. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "ONE DOLLAR" and the Carson City Mint mark "CC."
