Morgan's Beautiful Silver Dollar Design
Lady Liberty is portrayed on the obverse as a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap and a "LIBERTY" inscribed headband, with an array of leaves, flowers and grains decorating her hair. Liberty's portrait is based upon the likeness of Anna Willess Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher. The image is encircled by the inscriptions "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1880," along with thirteen stars.
The reverse depicts an eagle with its wings outstretched, as it grasps an olive branch and three arrows, with a laurel wreath curving below. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "ONE DOLLAR," with San Francisco's "S" Mint mark located near the wreath's ribbon.
