Why Make This GEM BU 1880-S Morgan Dollar the Next Addition to Your Collection?
The Morgan dollar was first struck in 1878, so this 1880-S Morgan dollar is from the early years of the series. It was struck at the San Francisco Mint. Mintage of this specific coin was moderate. There were 8,900,000 of these struck. Like other classic U.S. silver dollars from this period, this coin is 90% silver.
Exquisite Liberty Obverse and Bald Eagle Reverse by Morgan
The Morgan dollar gets its name from the artist who created the obverse and reverse designs, George T. Morgan. The obverse shows his classic portrait of Liberty wearing a cap. The date can be seen just below Liberty's neck.
The reverse shows Morgan's bald eagle design. This eagle is holding its wings high, it's partially surrounded by a wreath. Between the bottom of the wreath and the face value, you can find the "S" Mint mark.
GEM BU Condition
This Morgan silver dollar has not been certified by a third-party grading service. It is in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition, just like when it was released for circulation in 1880. However, some signs of age may be visible.
