Why add this Mint State 66 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar to your collection?

The San Francisco branch of the United States Mint is one of the most fabled in the history of American Coinage. Collectors of all skill levels seek out coins struck at this famous facility. This coin is struck on a 90% coin silver planchet which contains .7736 oz. ASW.

George T. Morgan, who later became the Chief Engraver of the US Mint, was the designer of this iconic dollar. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty in left-facing profile. She is featured wearing a coronet inscribed with the word "Liberty." The reverse of the dollar features an eagle with his wings spread. Upon the release of this coin in 1878, it was nicknamed "The Buzzard Dollar" by detractors who didn't appreciate the svelte appearance of the eagle. Soon after, the public accepted the design that would become the most collected coin in American Numismatics.

Mint State 66 is an exceptionally high grade for coins intended for circulation. Overall, these coins exhibit excellent eye appeal and Mint luster even after more than 135 years!
