Striking liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: The coin's obverse bears a left-side portrait of Liberty that was designed by George T. Morgan. The image shows her wearing a Phrygian cap, a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, and a crown of cotton a wheat, a Southern crop and a Northern one. Encircling the image are two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1880," and thirteen stars.
Reverse: The reverse image, which was also designed by Morgan, features an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath. The national motto of the United States, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above the bird's head. inscribed along the rim are the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR."
Uncirculated MS65 with Green Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) printed this coin's grade on their Green Label. The Green Label is only awarded to coins that prior to being submitted to NGC for grading, were also reviewed by exerts at Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA) along a set of strict guidelines. This additional scrutiny allows collectors to easily identify visually superior examples of coins. NGC also graded this piece Mint State 65. To earn that grade, a coin must have been well struck and retain all of its original mint luster.
