This gorgeous Morgan Silver Dollar was once part of the collection of Reno, Nevada resident LaVere Redfield. Following his death in 1977, a cache of approximately 400,000 silver dollars was discovered behind a false wall in his basement. This Morgan Silver Dollar from the hoard was struck by the San Francisco Mint in 1880 from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver, its mintage reported as 8,900,000.

Wearing a crown inscribed "LIBERTY" and a Phrygian cap, Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse with sprigs of oak, cotton and wheat threaded through her hair. The portrait is surrounded by thirteen stars, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1880."

A heraldic eagle adorns the reverse, clutching three arrows and an olive branch. Inscribed "IN GOD WE TRUST," "ONE DOLLAR," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and San Francisco's Mint mark "S."

This 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar has been authenticated by Paramount International Coin Corp. to be from the private collection of the late American hoarder LaVere Redfield. The coin is presented in Paramount's distinctive red core holder with confirmation of pedigree, and has been certified by that company to be in Mint State 65 condition.
