Why purchase this 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar?
The U.S. Mint began production of its Morgan Silver Dollar series in 1878. This example, containing 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver, was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1880, a time in American history when stagecoach robberies were common. The coin includes special packaging depicting Black Bart, one of California's most notorious stagecoach robbers in the 1870s and 1880s. Black Bart was also known as the "Gentleman Bandit" for his sophistication and style, and reputation for leaving poetic messages at his robbery sites.

Lady Liberty is depicted facing left on the obverse, her hair adorned with a garland of oak leaves, cotton blossoms and wheat grains, held in place by a headband inscribed "LIBERTY" and a Phrygian cap. Inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1880."
Featured on the reverse is an eagle grasping an olive branch and three arrows, partially surrounded by a laurel wreath below. Inscriptions include San Francisco's "S" Mint mark, "IN GOD WE TRUST," "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR."
