Why add the 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS66 to your collection?

This 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar achieved the solid Mint State 66 (MS66) collector grade from the experts at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The Nation's first mint, the iconic Philadelphia Branch struck this coin on a .900 pure silver planchet containing .7734 oz. actual silver weight. The Philadelphia Mint was established in 1792 and today supplies the bulk of US coinage East of the Mississippi River. The 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar had a total mintage of 12,600,000 coins.

Iconic Liberty Design

The design of the Morgan Silver Dollar was a departure from the previous designs on the U.S. Trade dollar and the Seated varieties previously struck. Previous silver dollars featured a seated image of Liberty. This obverse design features a portrait of only Liberty's head, as envisioned by designer George T. Morgan. The portrait was modeled by Anna Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher. The reverse featured on the series was less of a design departure and favored the mandated bald eagle designs of previous silver dollars. The eagle is featured holding an olive branch and arrows. The Morgan design adds a laurel wreath surrounding the eagle.

MS66 quality example for your collection

MS66 grade, also known as "GEM Uncirculated" coins are fully uncirculated examples. They betray no trace of wear and are lustrous, attractive examples that possess no obvious "bag" marks and have an outstanding strike quality.
