Why buy this Silver 1880 Morgan Dollar

This Morgan 1880 Silver Dollar is scarce in Mint State 65 condition, making this piece a true find for collectors. The coin was struck from .900 fine silver and weighs 26.73g. It comes from the third year of issue of the ever popular Morgans.

Striking New Design by George T. Morgan

Designer George T. Morgan lends his name to this piece. His obverse broke new ground in American numismatic history, as he used an American-style model, Anna Willess Williams, for Liberty, whereas Greco-style figures had previously been used. A Phrygian cap covers the back of her head, a symbol of her freedom, with American agriculture represented by her crown of cotton and wheat.

The reverse features an eagle with its wings spread upwards. An olive branch, which symbolizes peace, and arrows, which symbolize military readiness, are held in its talons. Above the eagle's head is an inscription of the American motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and a laurel wreath runs from just under one of the eagle's wings to just under the other.

Uncirculated Mint State 65 with Wyatt Earp Label

Graders at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) found that this coin was well struck but does have some moderate hairlines or marks. As such, they graded it Mint State 65. NGC provided that grade on a label that bears a portrait of American folk hero Wyatt Earp.
