The Morgan dollar was first released by the U.S. Mint in 1878 and was the first standard silver coin to be Produced under the Coinage act of 1973. Minted in 1880 this piece of coinage was struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada. It has a solid weight of 26.73g .900 pure silver, but a mintage of only 591,000!

Featuring the work of George T. Morgan

The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Liberty. This effigy was unique in its portrayal of lady Liberty as it depicts her with American features instead of the traditional Roman and Greek style most American coinage at the times followed. The portrait was modeled after teacher and philosophical writer, Anna Willes Williams.

Depicted on the reverse is a bald eagle, it clutches an olive branch and bundle of arrows. Encircling the eagle are the inscriptions which read; "UNITED STANDS OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR," with the American motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" rising above the eagle's head.
